Critic. Joan Lowndes immigrated to Canada in 1919. She studied at the University of British Columbia and the Sorbonne. Lowndes became interested in modern art while working as a translator for the American Office of War Information. After the war, she began working as a freelance broadcaster for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, subsequently becoming an art critic for the Vancouver Sun and the Vancouver Province.
